Quartz

• Use warm water, a soft cloth, and mild dish soap
• Dry with a microfiber towel to prevent streaks

• Harsh alkaline cleaners

Granite

• Use pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap
• Wipe spills quickly, especially oils, wine, coffee, and citrus
• Dry after cleaning to reduce water spots

Avoid:

• Vinegar, lemon, or acidic cleaners
• Ammonia-based products
• Abrasive pads

Quartz

Quartz is more heat-sensitive because the resin can discolor or crack.

Always use trivets or hot pads.

• Don’t place hot pans, crockpots, or air fryers directly on the surface.

Granite

Granite handles heat better, but sudden temperature changes can still damage sealant or cause stress cracks.

Trivets are still recommended.

Needs periodic sealing depending on the stone and usage.

A simple test: put a few drops of water on the counter. If it darkens within 10–15 minutes, resealing is probably needed.

Typical schedule:

Every 1–3 years for many kitchens.

For both:

• Use cutting boards instead of cutting directly on the surface.
• Clean spills quickly.
• Avoid letting oils or dyes sit overnight.

• Organic stains (coffee/wine) → hydrogen peroxide poultice

Common Quartz Issues

• Resin discoloration from heat or UV exposure

What NOT to Use on Either

• Steel wool
• Magic Erasers regularly (too abrasive over time)
• Strong degreasers
• Paint stripper
• Products containing hydrofluoric acid
